Finding solace at a CCS Lodge

When Jamie Evans was diagnosed with leukemia, she was understandably scared. Her fear intensified when she was told she’d have to leave her small town to travel to a big city for nine months of treatment.

Jamie was nervous to leave the hospital, where she had medical support around the clock. But when she learned she could rest and heal at a Canadian Cancer Society Lodge, her spirits picked up. CCS Lodges are supportive and affordable places to stay during cancer treatment that you make possible with your gift of A Home Away From Home.

“From the moment I walked in, it felt like I came home,” Jamie recalls. There was so much support, love, and encouragement. I don’t know what I would have done without it.”

At the Lodge, Jamie connected with others who were going through similar experiences.

“I met so many beautiful friends at the Lodge. We would meet for meals and gather round the table to talk about our lives,” says Jamie. “We weren’t defined by our cancer diagnosis. We talked about our friends and family, our children going to school, our businesses, and the things we loved.”

Jamie will always be thankful for the people who helped her feel safe and comfortable at the Lodge — and she is beyond grateful for your gift that helped her heal.

“It means so much to me to know that there are people out there that are looking out for us and our health,” says Jamie. “Thank you.”
